Animation Bootcamp

Ce début d’année a été plutôt chargé pour les animateurs de DDU : après avoir terminé fin Janvier MadValentine, spécial TV Madagascar pour la Saint-Valentin (sortie en 2012), on a enchaîné direct avec un training de 4 semaines, The Animation Bootcamp !

au programme, la 1ère semaine, cours d’impro avec Rebecca Stockley, spécialiste des cours d’acting et d’impro pour les animateurs, ça nous a vraiment aidé pour pouvoir filmer des références live, à pouvoir se mettre dans la peau du personnage plus facilement, ou trouver des idées plus intéressantes. La 2ème semaine, cours sur l'animation faciale avec Chris Landreth, réalisateur de courts métrages ("Ryan", entres autres) : quels muscles utiliser pour les différentes émotions, anim réaliste du visage, etc. Pendant les 4 semaines, Jason Spencer-Galsworthy, superviseur d'animation à PDI Dreamworks, a d'abord co-présenté les cours avec les autres intervenants, puis les 2 dernières semaines, il nous a coaché pour nous préparer à l'animation de long métrage !

Autant dire qu'on a appris énormément de choses en un mois, et maintenant, il va falloir tenter de les appliquer, puisqu'on vient de commencer l'animation sur Puss In Boots, long métrage qui sortira en Novembre prochain dans les salles !! et voici la première bande annonce :

With the beginning of 2011, a lot of work came for DDU animators : just after finishing MadValentine, a tv special for Valentine's Day (for 2012), we moved on to The Animation Bootcamp, a 4 week training ! Here is the program :

The 1st week, improv classes with Rebecca Stockley, acting and improv teacher for animators (and a lot others), it really helped us to get into character more easily when shooting live video references, or find interesting ideas that we wouldn't have thought of. The second week Chris Landreth (oscar-winning short film director) came to teach us about facial animation : which muscles and controls to use for different emotions, observe and recreate realistic facial animation, etc. During the 4 weeks, Jason Spencer-Galsworthy, animation supervisor at Dreamworks PDI, co-animated the fisrt 2 weeks, and the 2 last weeks he coached us to put us on the road to become a successful feature film animator !

So we learned many many things during this month, and from now on, we are going to try to apply them, since we have just started production on the feature film Puss In Boots, released next November !! And here is the first trailer :
